Drove up to Astoria Washington and then north across the bridge into southern Washington on a dreary wet, windy, day to Cape Disappointment. This light house has not been taken care of. Needs a lot of work. Steep hike up to it and it was disappointing. I also tried but failed to get to North Head but my vehicle was not allowed in. History notes that the ship carrying the crew and materials to build this lighthouse in 1855 was wrecked trying to approach the Columbia river on a sand bar. The 53 foot tower was completed in 1856 containing a first order Fresnel lens.
